Welcome to Arya Samaja
Arya Samaj is a virile rational reform movement founded by Maharshi Swami Dayanand Saraswathi in 1875. The very essence of this Samaj is to spread truth and dispel untruth. It believes that return to Vedic code of conduct holds key to all ailments afflicting humanity in general and Hindus in particular. Further, it condemns in unequivocal terms all kinds of ritualistic superstitions like Idol worship, animal sacrifice etc, as well as various forms of social oppression such as the caste system, untouchability and child marriage, suppression of women, post-death ceremonies, pilgrimages etc to cite a few. The main goal is to eradicate ignorance by rationally challenging beliefs and spreading knowledge based on Vedas thus taking the world towards the light of truth and knowledge.
The Aryasamaj Kanpur has a glorious history in fighting for Freedom of the country when it was under alien rule, besides fighting all kinds of superstitions. It was Swami Dayanand who first gave a clarion call that good govt was no substitute to self-Govt. Hence, he exhorted Indians to strive for attainment of independence from foreign yoke. His preaching had an electrifying effect on Indians and soon after his death hundreds of young people offered themselves for the cause of Freedom. It is on record that 60% of men who participated in freedom struggle both in passive and violent form hailed from the ranks of Aryasamaj Kanpur
After independence, Aryasamaj through its over 6000 branches both in India and abroad is actively engaging in the revival and spread of Vedic thought. It is in the vanguard in fighting all sort of social evils be it caste system, untouchability etc. In fact while the Constitution of India has ushered in political democracy under which there is one vote for every individual and therefore any individual with given qualifications necessary could rise to any position of power, a similar religious democracy under which any person with given qualifications and character could rise and be in a position of teacher, teaching Vedas and Vedic code of conduct. Aryasamaj Kanpur is a movement run on democratic lines and as such there is no scope of hereditary order, feudalism etc. Any person who subscribes to the objects of Aryasamaj could become a member.
